Developer Portal

Backstory & Solution

cidaas is a leading product that completely takes care of access and identity management. A cidaas instance for a company or organisation comprises all the new age features (user management, app management, etc.), and Admin has access to all the features.

We came across scenarios where admin rights are shared with the developer, i.e., they get full access and rights to all the features of the cidaas instance, and this was concerning for us.

To address this problem, we introduced the App Developer Portal, where developers and integrators have restricted access with specific permissions, such as APP_CREATE or APP_READ. They can create their own apps and manage them within their team.

Here, cidaas admin assigns DevTeamA APP_CREATE, APP_READ, and APP_DELETE access and DevTeamB the same (or a different) set of app roles.

About

The App Developer Portal lets developers and integrators manage their own applications without full admin privileges.

Sign in at https://{{Domain_name}}/trust-desk with a developer team (group type DeveloperGT). Menus are limited to what that team needs for app work — typically Home and Integrations (Applications, Endpoints).

Key benefits:

  • Create, update, and delete your own apps under Integrations → Applications
  • Access is limited to app-related features (no full user management or instance settings)
  • Developers can be organized into teams with different permission levels (for example DevTeamA / DevTeamB)
  • Reduces security risk by avoiding the need to share full admin credentials

In the App Developer Portal you can:

  • Create and manage cidaas apps under Integrations → Applications
  • View OpenID Endpoints under Integrations → Endpoints (discovery URL and copyable endpoint details)
  • Use Home as the landing page for the selected team
  • Select a team context after login when you belong to more than one group

Get Started with App Developer Portal

This section walks through enabling the App Developer Portal as a cidaas admin or secondary admin, then signing in as a developer.

  1. Sign in to https://{{Domain_name}}/trust-desk and select CIDAAS_ADMINS when prompted.

  2. Go to Permission Setup → User Groups and click Create User Group.

  • On the Create Group form, set Group Type to DeveloperGT.
  • Enter a Group ID and Group Name for the developer team (for example DevTeamA or DevTeamB).
  • Create one group per developer team as needed.

  1. Go to Users, create or open the developer user, then open Groups and roles.

    • Fill in the necessary user details when creating a new user.
    • Note the password for later use (for newly created users).
    • Click Add group and assign the developer group(s) you created (for example DevTeamA or DevTeamB).
    • Assign app roles for that team, such as APP_CREATE, APP_READ, or APP_DELETE.

  1. Ask the developer to open https://{{Domain_name}}/trust-desk and complete authentication.

    • If the user belongs to more than one group, the group selection screen appears. Select the developer team (for example DevTeamA).

You see the group selection screen when you are a member of multiple groups.

  1. After selection, use Integrations → Applications to list, create, and manage apps, or Integrations → Endpoints for OpenID discovery details.
